Hands Free Phone Law

Starting on July 1st, 2008 all Californians will need a hands free cell phone headset if they wish to talk on their cell phone while driving. Here are some basics of the law:

• Drivers under 18 are prohibited from talking even on hands free devices.
• Law enforcement officers can pull you over just for talking on a handheld phone
• Commercial drivers are exempted until 2011
• Out of state visitors are subject aren’t exempted from this law.
